Camouflage this, s'il-vous-plaît!

If I had magical powers, I'd make all screens and electrical wires disappear. They’re hideous (at best) but there's no escaping them. So how do you mask them? It looks like this Home Depot wallpaper and Benjamin Moore paint, worked their magic! A Sunday afternoon wallpapering à deux, glass of wine in hand, and another few hours painting were enough to turn our ‘downtime’ space around.

I boldly wallpapered the green German tile that encased (well, technically still encases) the fireplace creating a unified look. It can be rediscovered if so desired – nothing irrevocably lost.

The Ikea units are a great home for family pictures, photo books, DVDs, WII accessories and a couple of blankets. I traded our rather big and dark rug with a smaller white shag (also Home Depot). The orange accessories warm up the room and work with our deep purple sofas. I'm happy to tell you that all these accessories are an amalgamation of discounted items at my favourite Home Sense store. Not bad.

There are many creative ways to decorate and increase functionality on a dime, and if you manage to camouflage flat screens and cables in the process, then you've got it made!

Et voilà, pas compliqué du tout!

  3. Not particularly, but I am going to have to look at it in a different way....you are right though; it certainly hides your flat screen....I'm in retro mode still with 20 year old "wallpaper borders" and do need a change which is why I enjoy reading your blog so much! Thanks for the inspiration!

  5. This is a fantastic transformation. It's so hip and welcoming at the same time. I love it! I also love the idea of adding a bold pattern into a room like that, what a great job.

  6. The new wallpapers available today are gorgeous and SO easy to install. I love that you chose to paper a small area that still makes a huge impact in the room. A much less intimidating project for the novice1 Thanks for the inspiration - I know what I'm doing this weekend!

  7. Thanks Stephanie! Rita, the wallpaper here called for 'wallpaper paste'. I applied it on the wall and then put the paper up. It was a lot easier to manage than the wallpaper you wet. Also, this particular kind of wallpaper is thick so it makes it easier to work with! Good luck, have fun!!!

  8. Great choice on the wallpaper. I love larger scaled graphics. My next diy project is my the wall from the front entrance that goes through the hall and up the stairs. Painted almost black with a stenciled graphic motif in a textured silver.

Your wallpaper has lite a fire under my butt to get going!
