The ultimate satchel by Mariclaro

Here’s the most exciting gift I put under the Xmas tree this year: a shoulder satchel by Mari Cla Ro. It was exciting because it is the perfect gift for the single most difficult person to shop for: Mon homme! You see, I don’t often shop for him because he’s pretty self-sufficient in that department...if he needs something, he simply goes out and buys it. If a new gadget comes out, he’ll be the first one to know and will get it before I even have a chance to google the darn thing. So when I saw this bag I knew it was the perfect thing to get him because he really needed it, and because it would be next to impossible to find something more unique, well made and practical. I’m glad he agrees!!!

We simply love this very unique shoulder satchel, and here is why:

1. It's made locally by Mariclaro a sustainable design company that focuses on fashion and accessories made from industrial waste material. This particular bag is made of upholstery from this very Blazer truck, seat belts and bike tubes. Mariclaro offers a surprising variety of products, gorgeous jackets from exploded airbags, earrings from 8mm film and bike tubes. All their products are high quality, eco-friendly, and I’m very proud to say handmade in the Roncesvalles Village, Toronto.

2. Who’s are the brilliant people behind the shop, you wonder? Sven Schlegel and the lovely Willa Murray in collaboration with Patricia Youn the Fashion Design and production gal, and Linsday Sinclair. You can read about their amazing story and many talents here.  Valentine's Day is around the corner and if you're interested in cool green curiosities check what they've got in store here.

3. Why did I buy it? It’s locally made, unique and green. The amazing craftsmanship and high quality of the repurposed materials make this bag a durable and reliable travelling buddy. Talented people such as Willa and Sven are always open to custom orders, so inquire about yours here

4. The adjustable strap (and seat belts buckles) make it possible to wear the bag in at least three different ways (strapped across the back or, on the side or simply on the shoulder). The interior pockets keeps things organized, the padded leather Blazer upholstery protects any electronic devices, and the front covered pocket is the perfect size to keep things like passports and plane tickets safe, yet easily accessible. The bag is roomy without being bulky and surprisingly light.

Our lovely teens had a couple of comments about the bag and managed to get a bit of a reaction out of mon homme, and because life is not a magazine I thought I'd share them with you....it  went something like this:

Take that Indiana Jones!  Phew. Now the question remains....What comes after the satchel? God knows. I’m already stressing about finding mon homme’s his next gift. Any brilliant ideas? You know where to find me.
